I’ve thought quite a bit about what developer(s) I would like to acknowledge. What studios I think have done a particularly good job. There are decidedly few of those that I could personally call out for good deeds, partially because I’ve played so little in the last six months or so.
Instead I’d rather extend my appreciation to the individuals doing the developing itself. The artists, the coders, the GMs and support staff, and the testers. The people actually in the trenches doing the dirty work as opposed to the their (sometimes) great corporate overlords who get all the credit. This is equally true for the indie devs working by themselves or in small teams as it is those working for the large multinational development studios and publishing houses. Each one has its own pros and cons, but they’re out there doing the work either way.
This is also extended to the people doing the less flashy grunt work outside the gaming industry. The food service employees, the factory workers, tradespeople, and anyone else I haven’t listed, all out there doing their specific thing. Invisible, yet important to ensuring that we have all the products and services we could want or need.
Y’all keep doing your thing.
