FFXIV – Benchmark and Aftermath

So, with everything else behind us, I’ve been reviewing the thoughts of the internet and playing around with the benchmark and character creator a bit. I’m not gonna post any pictures, really, but if you want to play with it you can find it here. It’s a 2G zip file, and it didn’t immediately seem to require an account or anything.

The first thing I can say is that Viera is being very well received. I looked through a reddit thread of benchmark screenshots and I’d say there were easily ten Viera for every Hrothgar. I poked around and tried it, and I might have liked it if it was my first character, but I don’t like it as a replacement for my current character. In fact, I didn’t find anything I liked enough to bother changing things up.

Speaking of, remember all that talk about how customizable the Hrothgar were? They might have been exaggerating just a bit. While there are certainly a decent number of options, there have been quite a lot of complaints over the details. Things like the hair being tied to specific faces and not selectable separately.

I got pretty good results from the benchmark itself, though. Enough so that I don’t think I’ll have to worry about performance too much. That’s really the point of the thing anyway.

I haven’t exactly decided which class I’ll be running with, but for story content, it’ll be Dark Knight if our friend doesn’t pre-order. Otherwise, I’ll probably do Machinist, or maybe my original main Summoner, if I like the actual changes.

Gonna keep it short because it’s late though, peace.

  1. I caved and came back for the 7 days trial. So far I like it. But the issues that turned me away have already started peeking through. We will see if I will stay for Shadowbringers.

    1. Yeah, it’s not for everybody, and most of us went on a long-term hiatus for a while. If you happen to be on the Lamia server or the Primal data center and you need help with anything, let us know.
